Pittsburgh City Council members Dan Lavelle and Bobby Wilson hosted a hearing on Thursday, May 19. Wilkinsburg Future members present reported that the event was sparsely attended.
The sole speaker in favor of annexation was Bud Wise, a Pittsburgh resident and the president of the board of the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation. WCDC is the primary supporter of annexation and was severed from its relationship with the Borough of Wilkinsburg because of its repeated refusal to engage with the council and the community to explain its activities. All other speakers, residents of Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg, spoke against annexation. Attendees reported the council hosts were visibly dismayed by the turnout and the support for Wilkinsburg’s continued independence.
